The merry-go-round continues

Since coming to power in late 2007, the government’s commitment to the tertiary education system has included:

  • numerous reviews (Bradley, Knight, VET regulation through the NSSC, higher education regulation, a review of ASQA’s processes)
  • the Asian Century White Paper
  • Chaney’s advice on repositioning Australia’s international education sector
  • COAG decisions (a National Partnership Agreement on Skills Reform)
  • the creation of two new national regulators and associated regulatory infrastructure
  • reforms of the apprenticeship system following the creation of an expert panel’
  • the creation of new agencies – first Skills Australia, now the Australian Workplace Productivity Agency
  • the creation of a plethora of new funding arrangements (Productivity Places Program, the National Workforce Development Fund), and
  • so on, and so on, and so on.
