Since coming to power in late 2007, the government’s commitment to the tertiary education system has included:

numerous reviews (Bradley, Knight, VET regulation through the NSSC, higher education regulation, a review of ASQA’s processes)
the Asian Century White Paper
Chaney’s advice on repositioning Australia’s international education sector
COAG decisions (a National Partnership Agreement on Skills Reform)
the creation of two new national regulators and associated regulatory infrastructure
reforms of the apprenticeship system following the creation of an expert panel’
the creation of new agencies – first Skills Australia, now the Australian Workplace Productivity Agency
the creation of a plethora of new funding arrangements (Productivity Places Program, the National Workforce Development Fund), and
so on, and so on, and so on.
