For more than thirty years, the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) has played a central role inAustralia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector. NCVER’s vision is to contribute to the improvement of the national education and training system by ensuring policy and practice are based on sound evidence.

Owned by Commonwealth, state and territory ministers for VET, NCVER collects and manages national statistics on training activity, and evaluates and analyses issues pertinent to skill development and the economic and social outcomes from all tertiary education.

It actively communicates this information widely to governments, industry, the sector itself and the community.

To make this information as accessible as possible, NCVER publishes its work online and it’s freely available to anyone upon registration at www.ncver.edu.au and www.lsay.edu.au. This provides access to all research and statistical publications and podcasts, as well subscriptions to newsletters and email alerts. NCVER also hosts research forums, roundtables, an annual national conference and webinars throughout the year.

In addition, NCVER also manages VOCEDplus, an international database containing resources on VET, higher education, adult and community education, informal learning, and VET in Schools.

All of this work is underpinned by three major contracts for the management of: the national collection of VET statistics; the national competitive research grants program; and, the Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth. Each of these contracts is funded through the Commonwealth government, with support from the state and territory governments.
